Challenge
When I joined this initiative, Auctionet's homepage wasn't living up to its potential. For many users, it was their very first touchpoint with the platform — yet it wasn't helping them navigate auctions, track items, or feel personally connected to the marketplace. Instead, we saw fragmented journeys, unclear calls-to-action, and drop-offs in flows. In other words: the homepage had more potential for driving engagement and growth.
Understanding the Problem
I started by mapping the customer journey end-to-end, combining quantitative data (behavioural analytics, conversion funnels) with qualitative insights (user feedback). The analysis revealed a clear story: users wanted to track their bidding activity, return to their favourite items, and discover new auctions relevant to their interests — but the homepage wasn't enabling any of that. Instead, friction and misaligned CTAs were creating frustration and missed revenue opportunities.
Objective
The mission became clear: reimagine the homepage as a personalized hub that supported user goals while unlocking commercial value. Success would be measured not only by improved conversion rates but also by increased retention.
Approach
To get there, I worked closely with design and engineering on a phased approach:
- •Analysed customer journeys, behavioural data, and feedback to identify drop-off points.
- •Introduced personalisation features: bidding activity tracking, favourites, tailored recommendations.
- •Redesigned user flows to reduce friction and make it easy to move from discovery to bidding.
- •Placed strategic CTAs where conversion potential was highest.
Outcomes
- ✦Conversion rates increased by 5%–17%
- ✦New revenue streams unlocked, thanks to personalised discovery features
- ✦Homepage established as a strategic retention & growth driver
Reflection
This reinforced the importance of combining user empathy with commercial strategy. By listening to where users were struggling — and aligning solutions to business objectives — we turned a homepage into a measurable lever for growth and retention.
